Fire & Rescue District Command

Background

In March 2011 Ardmore Advertising approached The Design Zoo to create a unique game which would target people aged 13+ for Northern Ireland’s Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS).

This for us was an opportunity to push how far we could take web based games and within the first few weeks we set about developing an exciting ‘want to play’ game.

The Concept

To develop an engaging isometric fast paced online game which gives the player the opportunity to climb up the ladder from a new recruit to the chief officer and command four different districts.

The Result

A fast paced, real time strategy game where each aspect of the game was discussed in great detail to make sure all the procedures that the players were conducting reflected real-life scenarios. Even the map was based around the core areas of what NIFRS do for us on a daily basis. House/Building Fires, Road Traffic Collisions, Wildfires and Rescue missions.

Core Game Aspects

  • Simplistic gameplay based around complex scenarios
  • Your player and district stats dictate the challenges you face. For example if you don’t educate your districts about wildfires the likelihood of a wildfire happening would be higher.
  • The ability to save your progress via your Facebook account
  • Request help from a friend through Facebook to gain more resources
  • Work your way to the top of the Facebook Leaderboard

Four exciting months later and a lot of research into NIFRS the game was ready for beta testing and a couple of tweaks later, the game was officially launched at the start of October 2011.

A great project which we’re looking forward to improving over the next few years.
