Firestorm

Background

In September 2010 The Design Zoo were approached by Ardmore Advertising to help re-develop an existing teaching plan to help educate children from 11 -18 about fire and road safety, for Northern Ireland’s Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS).

After reviewing their previous material and understanding that this is one of the hardest markets to keep entertained, we put our heads together and focused on what would make the kids sit up and take notice. Three months and a lot of hard graft later an exciting interactive CD-ROM was released along with a web accessible version for children who may wish to learn at home.

The interactive experience covers everything from risk finders inside and outside of the home, to creating your own escape plan and hearing from victims of road traffic collisions incidents through hard hitting video footage.

Throughout the project we never forgot about the teacher and made sure they had the flexibility to jump around the interactive experience whenever they wished and the ability to turn on and off sound in core areas to discuss issues with the class.

Outcome

  • An interactive online resource for kids or teachers to learn about fire and road safety that NIFRS are really proud of.
  • An educational CD-ROM which captured children’s attention and made it exciting for them to learn.
